Montauk Camping Trip

We went camping this past weekend at Montauk State Park. It is about 3 hours away. This is Nora's first time tent camping and first trip to Montauk. I have been camping at Montauk since I was Nora's age and it is a Bromeier tradition to go the last weekend in July. Most of my dad's side of the family goes and we always have a great time and this year was no different. We arrived around noon on Friday and it was HOT! So after we set up our brand new 8 man tent and air mattress' we put on Nora's suit and headed into the Current River. We camp right on the river. Now, this river is COLD, the spring is where our campground is so the water stays a cool 65 degrees in the summer. So considering the temp was 100 on Friday it felt pretty good. It still shocks the system when you first get in though. The video below is of Nora getting into the river for the first time.

she was so excited to get on the road and go!

Friday we also gave Nora a bike with training wheels on it. It was Peter's idea and while it was great, it also wasn't because she wanted to ride it, but wouldn't let me let go of her. So every trip to the bathroom on Friday was on the bike with me holding her on it. She did start to let me just touch her, but she still needs to learn to pedal better because I had to push most of the way.  By that time is was finally getting dark and we headed to bed. Nora was so tired we forgot to brush our teeth and she realized this as I told her to lay down and she started crying because she said we HAD to brush our teeth two times a day because that is what the dentist said. I finally convinced her it was okay and she fell fast asleep in no time. She did not wake up once and she had plenty of reasons to. The campers across from us were up until 3 am and then up again at 5 am not feeling so well because they drank too much. Then the buzzer to fish went off at 6 am and Nora did not get up until almost 8:30!!! Go Nora!!!
We went and fed the fish twice while we were there. There were all sizes and Nora wanted to know who they were like. So we had mommy fish, Nora sized fish, Jalen sized fish and teenage fish.

That evening we BBQ'd and Nora so badly wanted to roast marshmello's, but unfortunately there was a burn ban because of the excessive dry summer. So we roasted in the BBQ pit (classy, I know but you do what you do to make your kiddos happy!). She roasted them and then wanted to have nothing to do with them because they were too hot! Silly girl. So she just ate them regular.

On Saturday we got dressed, had breakfast and pappy was ready to take her fishing with her new Barbie pole. We headed to a spot, but the water was too fast so it only lasted about 15 min. before she was done, which was fine because we had to get ready for the float trip. There were about 20 of us that floated in tubes and Nora did NOT like the float. She was plastered to me and we finally put her in a raft boat and she did much better. It was a good thing our cousin Brandi brought it for her son, it was a life saver. We played in the water a little, but I think she is just a little too young to really like it yet. We had a great night that night and enjoyed the company. Nora did a great job camping and was completely exhausted come Sunday. Two days outside with no nap with do that to a girl. When we got up the clouds didn't look so good and in true Montauk style in rained on us. It wouldn't matter when we went to Montauk it would rain. We are in the middle of a draught for crying out loud and still got rained on! so we had put our stuff away wet, but that was okay. It was a great weekend. The only had one minor set back so great first camping trip!!!!
